These pages are dedicated to you, the
user. I have spent a lot of time searching for articles about
woodfiring at the web. So I thought it could be a good idea to
collect these articles to give an overview. So, if you find
interesting articles about woodfiring in the web, please send
me a mail with the URL that enables me to link it from this
site. You’ve written an article for a magazine some years
ago, but the issue isn’t available anymore? Or you have a
beautiful article about you or an exhibition on your computer?
Just send it to me (at first without pictures). I will publish
it on these pages (but please make sure that you have the
permission of the author).
External links will be opened in a new
window.
I’ve just began with this, you will
find some new articles and links from time to time. Please send
a short note, if any link doesn’t work anymore.
Copyright
With sending an article to me you are
giving automatically the permission to publish it on my
website. If you are not the author, you got his permission to
do so. This leaves all the copyrights of the author untouched.
If you want to download articles, you are
allowed to do so only for your personal needs. If you want to
publish them in any form, you will have to ask the author.
Sorting
The articles are sorted by the date of
publishing (or linking) on my website, last first.
Last entry on June, 21th 2008.
This is the presentation that I made for
the Australian Woodfire conference 2008 at the Sturt Crafts
Centre in Mittagong, NSW. The presentation included over 80
slides, some of them are published also here.
are some of the woodfire conference
papers available as .pdf-download. Sturt Woodfire took place in
April 2008.
published many essays, also about
woodfire and woodfirers

By Moira Vincentelli
She argues »that the gendered
nature of ceramic technology has been insufficiently taken into
account in many development projects«.
»...wood-fire kiln building is
positioned as a heroic ‘macho’
activity…«. Until I read this article I
didn’t think much about the »gendered nature of
ceramic technology«, but this might be due to the fact
that many of the wood firing and wheel throwing potters in my
area are women. I wrote an email to Mrs. Vincentelli but
didn’t get an answer, so I publish my point of view here.
By Markus Böhm
I wrote this article for The Log Book
(published 2006, issue 26), but it became far too long and I
didn’t write it to the end. Robert Sanderson had a lot of
work to change and shorten it (thanks for that!). But here I
have enough space to publish it unshortened and with additional
pictures. Also many thanks to Pete Goubeaud for his help!
This is a short article in which Fred
looks back on his life and his beginning on the USC and the
Kyoto City College of Fine Arts (Bidai) Ceramic Department. He
describes his journeys and connections especially to Australia.
This is strongly recommended reading.
Owen put all his articles on his website, now (May 2006) I
count 12 articles about firing, wadding, aesthetics and so on,
and one additional article by Chester Nealy about Stacking for Flashed Color and
Scars
This is an interview with Simon Levin by
Rick Berman. It is a scan (PDF) of an article published at Clay
Times in Janury/February 2005.
